BBC has apologised for asking Andrew Scott a clumsy query about Saltburn on the current Bafta Awards.
The 47-year-old seemed visibly uncomfortable throughout the recent exchange, which they have now described as 'misjudged'.
After reporter Colin Paterson asked Andrew about his film All of Us Strangers, they then discussed the recognition of Irish actors together with Barry Keoghan, who starred in Saltburn.
'Can I ask your reaction whenever you first saw the naked dance scene at the end of Saltburn?' he enquired.
Making an attempt to avoid the question about his friend's full-frontal nudity, the Fleabag actor tutted.
'I don't need to spoil it for anybody,' Andrew replied as he tried to move the dialog forward but the interviewer didn't drop his questioning.
'There's a number of speak concerning the prosthetics…' he interjected earlier than Andrew pulled a face and decided to walk away.
The broadcaster has now defined why the query was asked.
'Saltburn is a movie which has had cultural impression, with Barry Keoghan's scene on the finish gaining plenty of consideration particularly – one thing the actor has addressed himself.
'Our question to Andrew Scott was meant to be a light-hearted reflection of the dialogue around the scene and was not meant to cause offence,' they started. BBC added that Saltburn director Emerald Fennell, and singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose track Homicide on the Dancefloor options in the scene, also confronted the identical line of questioning.
'We do, nevertheless, settle for that the precise query asked to Andrew Scott was misjudged. After speaking with Andrew on the carpet, our reporter acknowledged on air that his questioning might have gone too far and that he was sorry if this was the case,' they added.
The purple carpet moment was extensively criticised, and complaints have been despatched to BBC which led to their response.
Accusations of underlying homophobic tones have been levied at the reporter, provided that Andrew identifies as gay.
'There's is one thing so deeply homophobic about asking Andrew Scott a homosexual man this bizarre ass query about Barry's scene in Saltburn??' wrote X consumer Amber.
Mullins Martin added: 'Shameful interview. Andrew Scott is so sleek.'
All Of Us Strangers acquired six nods at the award ceremony, together with Outstanding British Movie, Greatest Supporting Actor for Paul Mescal, Greatest Supporting Actress for Claire Foy and Greatest Director for Andrew Haigh.
Meanwhile, Saltburn had five nominations including Excellent British Film, Greatest Supporting Actor for Jacob Elordi, Greatest Supporting Actress for Rosamund Pike, and Greatest Actor in a Leading Position for Barry. Nevertheless, the films and their stars went house empty-handed.
