British playwright Edward Bond, who wrote Lear and The Sea, has died at the age of 89.
Bond wrote over 50 performs throughout his career and was a key figure in removing censorship from British theatre in the mid 1960s.
He was one of the necessary British dramatists of the 20th century, in addition to probably the most controversial.

'It was Bond's plays that broke the facility of the Lord Chamberlain's blue pencil and paved the best way for every part that came after.'
Actor Samuel West described him as 'a theatrical big' in a publish on X.
'His work was like no one else's: passionate, critical, principled, anguished, strange, utterly unique,' wrote West, who performed in Sam Mendes' 1991 manufacturing of The Sea at the National Theatre.
Born in north London in 1934, Bond's early experiences of wartime bombing and society informed his later work.
His first play to be produced was The Pope's Wedding ceremony, at the Royal Courtroom Theatre in 1962, which explored the tensions in a farm group in Essex.
Bond made his mark in the theatre world three years later with Saved, concerning the human experience on a south London council property, which was initially banned for its scenes of violence.
When it was staged on the Royal Courtroom, it depicted a teenage gang stoning a baby in a pram, causing mass outrage, and the venue was prosecuted for placing the play on unlicensed.
Sir Laurence Olivier was among these to defend the production and in a letter to the Observer he wrote: "Saved shouldn't be a play for youngsters however it's for grown-ups, and the grown-ups of this country ought to have the courage to take a look at it."
The Royal Courtroom lost the case on the time however the play is credited with enjoying a key position within the abolition of stage censorship in 1968.
