"My fantastic mother passed away peacefully at 5:28 this evening. I used to be together with her this morning and know she was waiting for me to return house safely to transition," she advised Fox News.
"It's fitting she selected to go away on Easter as it was considered one of her favourite holidays and now, in fact, Easter may have a deeper significance for me and my family."
Her demise comes just months after her daughter posted a birthday tribute on Instagram.
"She is golden, she is a diamond, she glows like the moon and shines just like the sun," Cowan wrote in January.
"Age does not diminish the sunshine in her eyes, the sweetness of her coronary heart, or the knowledge in her soul.
"To me, she is 97 years younger."
