A COSTCO shopper managed to get his money back 15 years after purchasing a playscape from the wholesale retailer.

An employee lived to tell the tale, sharing the story on Reddit of the crazy return that fired up users.

In a subreddit dedicated to Costco returns, users exchanged stories of items they've brought back years later and how the store surprisingly welcomed them, no matter the item, with open arms.

In a post about an air fryer return, a user and former Costco employee shared a shocking story of their own.

"One time my manager had to have a stern conversation with a member after he returned a playscape he bought 15 years ago because his 'kids are grown up now and out of the house,'" they wrote.

And he still got his money back according to the employee.

"It's maybe a bit ridiculous, but it's a perk of having a membership with us!" they wrote.

Another user responded, writing, "Wow! The playhouse story!!" and thanked the user for their response.

"Costco is lucky to have you!" they wrote.

TO RETURN OR NOT TO RETURN

Questions surrounding the rules behind returns filled the forum as users exchanged stories.

"What if they don't carry it anymore then what?" asked one Redditor.

"So I buy new. And return old for a refund??" another user asked, referring to a purchase from their past.

The employee who encountered the playhouse return assured the customer that either way is allowed at Costco.

"If you plan to return and buy the same day, return first because you can't bring the merchandise into the store while you shop," they advised.

Standard protocol, according to the employee, includes returning the item and having the money put on a shop card because it can take a couple of days to hit your account.

Customers can then use the store's shop card for their new purchase.

Known for its famously generous satisfaction guaranteed return policy, Costco has taken back a slew of strange items, though the occasional denial by an employee has occurred.

"This guy came in wanting to return rotten salmon he left in his trunk for months," one employee wrote.

"It was green and black and smelled like absolute death. I denied the return."

Costco also makes exceptions for electronics, per a 2007 rule that states items must be returned within 90 days of purchase or when the member receives the item in the mail.

Airline tickets and tickets to live performances are also non-refundable.

Another Redditor once admitted to returning a steak that they had already sliced and cooked.

Plus, a Costco member shared a crazy return they witnessed as a man brought in an odd item he bought five years prior.
