'Who thought this was a good idea?' Walmart shopper fumes – store admits it's 'not checkout experience you should have' | MN9VMUR | 2024-05-06 17:08:01
A SHOPPER has raged after experiencing long lines and a lack of employees while at Walmart.
Customers have been slamming the long lines at self-checkout since the retail giant made a major change this year.

"Checking out at @walmart is suck a f***ing hassle now! No human cashiers and the self-checkout line is ALWAYS long as f***! Who thought THIS was a good idea?!" a user tweeted to X, formerly known as Twitter.
Walmart responded to their passionate tweet saying, "That's not the checkout experience you should be having, Jason. Could you please send us a DM?"
Due to the excessive complaints about long lines and wait times, the company has decided to remove self-checkout machines all together at certain locations.
"We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the chance to provide more personalized and efficient service," Spokesperson Brian Little told Business Insider.
"The decision was based on several factors, including feedback from associates and customers, shopping patterns and business needs in this area. We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the chance to provide more personalized and efficient service," Little said, per KSDK.
Another spokesperson said the change is to better the shopping experience for Walmart shoppers.
"We continually look at ways to provide our customers with the best shopping experience and that includes adjusting the checkout area in stores," Walmart spokesperson Josh Havens told Business Insider,
Two locations closed in Albuquerque, New Mexico in September 2023, according to Business Insider.
In April, Business Insider reported that locations in Cleveland, Ohio, Steelyard location and a St. Louis, Missouri Supercenter were also removing self-checkout.
WALMART+ CHANGES
Another major change the company rolled out this year has angered customers.
<!-- End of Brightcove Player --> Walmart recently implemented a new policy that allows employees to reserve self-checkout lanes for Walmart+ subscribers and Spark delivery drivers.
Staff can now choose to shut down self-checkout for everyone except members of the $12.95-a-month Walmart+ subscription and delivery drivers.
Shoppers have not been a big fan of this change as they find it very inconvenient.
"@Walmart Do something with the self-checkout and sparks drivers. It's not right leaving paying customer waiting when the 2 sparks cash registers going unused," a customer shared to X.
</div> </div> A photo of the sign at Walmart alerting customers to the change was posted to Reddit and customers customers had something to say.
"I wouldn't pay for self-checkout," shopper Marshe Lovee told Fox affiliate WBRC.
"Anybody that's crazy enough to pay for self-checkout, they need to be in a mental institute. I'm sorry."
"Why would I need to pay just to use the self-checkout?" another shopper, Nika Amerson, asked.
"I'll just stand in a regular line at that point."
The U.S. Sun has contacted Walmart for comment.
