SHOPPERS at Family Dollar have said they're not shocked at the wave of closures across one state.
The brand has been in the middle of shutdowns since the start of the year, with over 1,000 planned over the next couple of years by its parent company, Dollar Tree.
Rick Dreiling, the company's chairman and CEO, confirmed in an earnings call in March that at least 600 Family Dollar stores would close by the first half of 2024.
Customers in Ohio are seeing more shutdowns than in other states.
At least 35 Family Dollar stores will close in The Buckeye State by the end of April.
An estimated date of April 20 was given for most of the locations, so many shoppers likely already saw their local Family Store shut down last week, per Fox affiliate WJW.
The remaining few will be axed come April 30.
Cincinnati residents saw at least 10 Family Dollar locations go in the shutdown wave.
FAN FURY
One fan was frustrated over the Ohio closures — but not surprised — as they claimed Family Dollar's prices were higher than one dollar for a long time.
They also said there were 50% liquidation sales at all 35 locations across the state.
"They can't make a profit from it and the tax write-offs now (plus they haven't been a dollar in forever)," the shopper wrote in a post to X, formerly Twitter.
"They already closed like every Family Dollar in Ohio as of this month I believe being the final month."

Others were happy to see the locations leave the state.
"GOOD!!" someone else wrote.
"I thought they was already closed. Those stores are nasty," another said.
A fuming customer also said the operations at the 35 closing locations were a "crap shoot" and claimed there were only eight employees at each store.
TOUGH TIMES
In total, 265 employees are said to be affected by the Family Dollar shutdowns in Ohio, per Dayton CBS affiliate WHIO.
It doesn't end with the 600 planned for the first half of 2024 for Family Dollar either, according to comments from Dreiling on the March earnings call.
About 370 more will be gone over several years when their leases end, and 30 Dollar Tree locations along with them.
Dreiling attributed the decision to close the Family Dollar locations as part of a "very challenging macro environment" on the call.
He also explained that the company would be conducting "a comprehensive review of our Family Dollar portfolio to address underperforming stores that are not aligned with our transformative vision for the company."
