There are a set of parking spaces reserved for recent US Open champions at Pinehurst. They are given prime position just outside the clubhouse. They are marked with a player's name and the year they lifted the trophy. Champions row was all-but empty early on Sunday morning. Except for one white Lexus parked in front of a sign marked: Matt Fitzpatrick, 2022. The 29-year-old from Sheffield was out in the final group at Brookline two years ago, when he held off Will Zalatoris and Scottie Scheffler to land a first major title.
