A SHOPPER has slammed retail staff who seem to hate when they refuse to use self-service kiosks.

The defiant customer was quick to hit back at cashiers who ask her to bag her items herself before leaving the store.

"I refuse to use self-checkout," the user wrote on Facebook.

"Sometimes the store management types seem to get mad that I'm not going along with what they want.

"New paradigm: the customer can suck eggs."

Other shoppers rallied to the customer's defense, with one saying they feel "much happier" when they pay in person.

"Oh, I am so with you," they said.

"I rebel against it every chance I get.

"It's just plain wrong. And I find it dehumanizing.

"I love social interaction, too, and make every effort to keep brick and mortar alive."

"I never use them, period," another agreed.

"I enjoy talking with the checkers and the other people in line.

"It's a nice little bit of human interaction."

SELF-CHECKOUT CLOSURES

Walmart is removing self-checkout kiosks at some locations to improve customer experience following complaints of long lines and wait times.

Spokesperson Brian Little spoke with Business Insider about the changes.

"We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the chance to provide more personalized and efficient service," he said.

"We continually look at ways to provide our customers with the best shopping experience and that includes adjusting the checkout area in stores," Walmart spokesperson Josh Havens told Business Insider in September 2023.

"The decision was based on several factors, including feedback from associates and customers, shopping patterns and business needs in this area. We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the chance to provide more personalized and efficient service," Little said, per NBC affiliate KSDK.

Other stores, such as Dollar General and Five Below, are removing some self-checkout kiosks as well.

According to Business Insider, the two retailers have struggled with "high rates of missing inventory."

Target has implemented a new rule at some locations that reserves self-checkout lanes for customers purchasing 10 items or less, a move the company said "helped make the checkout process twice as fast as when there were no limits," per the publication.
