'This is despicable,' slams Costco shopper over controversial return policy saying some refunds blatantly take advantage | MN9VMUR | 2024-05-06 17:08:01
COSTCO members have hit out at customers who take advantage of the lenient return policy after a shopper tried to take back a 15-year-old couch.
Costco has a famously generous return 100% satisfaction guarantee that offers shoppers a full refund.

In the r/Costco subreddit, a customer shared photo of the sofa abandoned on a flat cart in front of the store.
"Local Costco – somebody tried returning their 15 year old sofa but were told no," they wrote.
"So they just left it/dumped it! Rude!"
They didn't reveal the reason for the return, but Redditors were quick to judge the shopper.
"I hope Costco cancels their membership for ditching their c**p at the store," wrote one person.
"Who in their right mind thinks returning 15-year-old furniture is acceptable? Nobody. This person was insane."
A second customer wrote: "I agree. This is despicable."
"I know Costco's return policy is pretty much "We'll take whatever" but this is a blatant taking advantage. Used mattresses with stains? A TV from the 90s? Dead Christmas trees/plants?
"Like c'mon, enough is enough."
However, some people defended the move.
<!-- End of Brightcove Player --> "If Costco allows people to abuse the system, people will do it," wrote one shopper.
"It's no different than LL bean return policy. They allowed people to return random 20+ year old crap and get a new item. They enabled it for years and eventually changed their return policy."
Another added: "When trying this stuff out management usually looks at how much you spend yearly. If you spend $5-10k yearly they're gonna accept your return."
"The loss of a few hundred bucks in the grand scheme of things is nothing if it keeps you coming back and dropping thousands a year.
"If you don't spend much, you can expect a refusal if you try to pull something like this."
THE FINE PRINT
Surprisingly, there are certain items that Costco does not allow returns or refunds for certain items.
Electronics have a 90-day return window, and diamonds of 1-carat or larger must be returned within 48 hours with all of the original paperwork.
Diamonds will also be inspected for authenticity upon return.
